The intolerance debate

intolerance

It’s more about throwing brickbats against each other than what’s being tolerated. It’s amazing to see how the public at large can be fooled. How easily the perception can be built, taken advantage of and lead to a massive movement that goes nowhere!

Corruption is a thing of the past. That they were discussing before beef!

Hats off to the politicians, the media and the citizens of this nation!

Election 09 – India maturing?

I voted for the 2nd time in my life!

So, Big Deal, I went and voted – a few days ago. Wasn’t as difficult as I assumed it to be. It took about 30 mins to look for my EPIC Number on the internet and I’ve kept it for my reference in future – went to my favorite party’s booth – some 500 meters before the polling booth to confirm the details that I had and they even gave more details of the rest of us. On to a government girl’s school – probably occupying more area and airy than many of the private (public?) schools. It did not take more than 20 mins beyond that point and we were back in the car.

I indeed felt very good after all three of us – mother, wife and me – exercised the only right that we had! I shouldn’t forget the right to pay taxes.

Lo and behold – today we had the results pouring in and the party we backed won. We live in a funny situation and funny things are happening – the newest thing to happen is this result. The media and party have gone crazy. That’s nothing new. But there’ll be a day when they’ll be put straight also. I guess the time has come or at least the writing is on the wall.

So what did India vote for? Stability? Future? so called “Indian Dynasty” – “Rahul” factor? Youth Power? Pigeon$hit. Today, the TV screens are crying about all this BUT I believe, that’s an optimistic turn the Congress and the media had taken to. I read in Economist which said – Indians seem to have forgotten the 26/11 attacks – are wary of reforms even in the fatter days – lots of such statements.

But I’d gone, and I believe many Indians have gone – we saw a 2% increase in the turnout in spite of the heat – which I believe is a result of a few percentage down on the ones who were regular and more of those who never had gone. Because, we’re scared, I am scared – I don’t want to die off the bullet from a gun of a radical idiot, who doesn’t know what he or she is doing.I don’t want to die while I’m in the office – working to turn my dreams come true. Or while I’m relaxing at home or spending some good time with my family in a restaurant. I think there are many better ways to pass away! So, whoever you are, trying to state that we’d forgotten 26/11 – please shut up. We elected a better piece and with a capacity to take decisions without much hindrance.

Indians have also known or at least I know – that they’ll never ever have a prime minister like what we can have in Dr. Singh – Nobody will be as qualified, intellectual, unassuming and cool headed individual. There’s a huge cry about “Rahul Gandhi” and the youth and lot of bull$hit. Let’s not forget, it was Dr. Singh who did the dirty work when Rajiv became the prime minister – years ago. Unfortunately, the media or the party or whoever JUST doesn’t want to give that credit to him. And, here’s the gentleman, comes to the press conference and gives the credit to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi – Amazing! Can you believe it? I really don’t know that if at all he has any vested interest in becoming a prime minister of this country. Even rocket scientists know it’s not easy.

At the end of the day, the funny part is – good things are happening. The media can only continue to bull$hit as long as we let them to. But the twenty percent of info is a required stuff, so let’s take the 80% beating.

I sincerely want to thank everyone who voted this time – doesn’t matter which party you voted for. Sincerely, I didn’t care who this “Meena” was to whom I voted. Today, I read the papers in which he said, he’s a youth and he’ll work for the youth – another funny thing. Doesn’t matter. At least we thought about a bigger cause – we’re maturing.

Please vote this time

I got this in an email today and thought it’s worth sharing…

Let me begin by saying that I am no fan of the Congress Party. Yet, the abuses heaped by Mr. Uddhav Thakeray during his meeting in Poona upon our Prime Minister left me stunned and disturbed enough to write this. His expletives were beeped out by the news channel, but we read in this morning’s papers that he called the PM a hijra. Not once but several times during his speech. When asked to clarify his comments later in the day, Mr. Thakeray was unapologetic. What was worse was that a senior leader, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, who was on the same platform, also hurled expletives at the PM which too were appropriately beeped out by the TV channel. Apparently, there was neither constructive suggestions nor constructive criticism. Not a word about the PM’s economic policies, not a peep about foreign relations. Nothing. Just sheer, vulgar criticism.

We do not know the educational background of these two gentlemen, but we are aware of the background of the PM – an eminent economist, educated at Oxford and Cambridge, stints with the IMF, Governor of the RBI, Finance Minister whose economic reforms launched India into the orbit of the fastest developing economies, a man of quiet dignity, poise and of good-breeding and, above all, one who has never contested an election or sought high office. All the more disturbing to hear such language from “leaders”.

But Mr Thakeray is not alone. His speech is symptomatic of a larger malaise of hate afflicting us in recent times. Take the following:

  • Mr Varun Gandhi lets loose a barrage of vitriolic unguided missiles against Muslims and Sikhs
  • A certain Mr Muthalik imagines himself to be the custodian of Indian culture and thinks nothing of molesting women. What is worse he assures us of taking his campaign to Goa. No arrests by the police
  • Some Dal or another opposes the installation of the statue of Charlie Chaplin
  • Mr Raj Thakaray is back to bashing North Indians.

On the other hand just take a small look at our neighbour Pakistan. I, like many of us, was closely watching the Long March and the speeches of Nawaz Sharif. Despite the charged atmosphere, what poise and elegance he exhibited! Never was an abuse uttered; instead, he refered to Zardari as Mian Zardari Sahab. What a contrast to our guys here.

Now, the elections are just round the corner. This is an assertive appeal to PLEASE VOTE. Forget the IPL, or your little sojourn somewhere. But please try to arrest the downslide in public life. Vote for anybody you think represents DECENCY in public life. But PLEASE VOTE. Let’s get decency back into our lives. Let’s try.

Would appreciate it if you would forward this to as many friends as possible. Let’s begin a chant for decency in public life.

Letter to the Prime Minister

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I am a typical mouse from Mumbai. In the local train compartment which has capacity of 100 persons, I travel with 500 more mice. Mouse at least squeak but we don’t even do that.

Today I heard your speech. In which you said ‘NO BODY WOULD BE SPARED’. I would like to remind you that fourteen years has passed since serial bomb blast in Mumbai took place. Dawood was the main conspirator. Till today he is not caught. All our bolywood actors, our builders, our Gutka king meet him but your Government can not catch him. Reason is simple; all your ministers are hand in glove with him. If any attempt is made to catch him everybody will be exposed. Your statement ‘NOBODY WOULD BE SPARED’ is nothing but a cruel joke on this unfortunate people of India.

Enough is enough. As such after seeing terrorist attack carried out by about a dozen young boys I realize that if same thing continues days are not away when terrorist will attack by air, destroy our nuclear reactor and there will be one more Hiroshima. We the people are left with only one mantra. Womb to Bomb to Tomb. You promised Mumbaikar Shanghai, what you have given us is Jalianwala Baug.

Today only your home minister resigned. What took you so long to kick out this joker? Only reason was that he was loyal to Gandhi family. Loyalty to Gandhi family is more important than blood of innocent people, isn’t it?

I am born and bought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years. Believe me corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar. Look at all the politician, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan Rane, Bal Thackray, Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh all are rolling in money. Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief minister I have seen. His only business is to increase the FSI every other day, make money and send it to Delhi so Congress can fight next election. Now the clown has found new way and will increase FSI for fisherman so they can build concrete house right on sea shore. Next time terrorist can comfortably live in those house, enjoy the beauty of sea and then attack the Mumbai at their will.

Recently I had to purchase house in Mumbai. I met about two dozen builders. Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person like me knows this and with all your intelligent agency & CBI you and your finance minister are not aware of it. Where all the black money goes? To the underworld isn’t it? Our politicians take help of these goondas to vacate people by force. I myself was victim of it. If you have time please come to me, I will tell you everything.

If this has been land of fools, idiots then I would not have ever cared to write you this letter. Just see the tragedy, on one side we are reaching moon, people are so intelligent and on other side you politician has converted nectar into deadly poison. I am everything  Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Schedule caste, OBC, Muslim OBC, Christian Schedule caste, Creamy Schedule caste only what I am not is INDIAN.

You politician have raped every part of mother India by your policy of divide and rule. Take example of former president Abdul Kalam. Such an intelligent person, such a fine human being. You politician didn’t even spare him.  Your party along with opposition joined the hands, because politician feels they are supreme and there is no place for good person.

Dear Mr Prime minister, you are one of the most intelligent person, most learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First and foremost expose all selfish politician. Ask Swiss bank to give name of all Indian account holder. Give reins of CBI to independent agency. Let them find wolf among us. There will be political upheaval but that will better than dance of death which we are witnessing every day.  Just give us ambient where we can work honestly and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else will be taken care of.

Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by one person or you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people?

Prakash B. Bajaj.
